“Take Up Thy Bed and Walk”

In Between Two Worlds

Surprisingly, my wakeful hours at night have become a blessing. When I wake, I’m in between two worlds. I’m conscious enough to know not to move so I don’t wake Brian, but sleepy enough that I feel like I’m in touch with something greater than my normal awareness. In this space I can contemplate something and greater understanding comes. I also practice during these early morning hours: practice surrendering, surrendering to what is being felt in the body, loving it unconditionally, accepting what is being experienced without resistance.

Life Is Creation

Last night I was with the concept of surrendering to Thy Will, during which a new level of understanding began to unfold. I thought that I needed to do something to access Thy Will, as if there was a larger, higher agenda “out there” somewhere that was trying to be and I needed to work to get to it. As I laid there I realized that, “Thy Will” is my life experience. Life as it unfolds, is informed by the totality of all that exists, and all that which is beyond existence, the Unmanifest.

I like to think of this moment of creation (what Dr. David Hawkins calls the “crest of the wave”) as the Cosmic Kaleidoscope of Creation. Facets, nuances, colors, patterns, energies, depth, scope, life, all combine into creating what is which is more complex and complete than this mind can comprehend.

All that is, exists, because it is a creation informed by depth and dimensions that we can only try to fathom.

The Pathway of Surrendering the Ego

I participate in several Doc (Dr. David Hawkins) study groups, which practice letting go. The practice is to surrender into what is, as a pathway of surrendering the ego. Doc teaches that the pathway to enlightenment is letting go of identifying with content (the finite, manifest realm) and identifying with the larger contextual Infinite perspective. This is my practice at night. I practice letting go of the experience and observe what is being experienced. I am witnessing the experience, surrendering into it, embracing it in Love unconditionally, and opening to a more expansive perspective.

Last night I realized that what is unfolding is unfolding, it is happening, it simply is. So I don’t need to go get a higher agenda of Thy Will to assist it in happening, it already is happening. I just need to be open, centered, conscious. Letting go of attachments, control, my will, my way … letting go of all resistance to what is. As Byron Katie states, “You can argue with reality, but you will only lose 100% of the time.” So surrender into what is.

How Am I Being in this Moment?

I then began to realize something else. How I am being in the moment, influences that moment. I can think of several examples of others who have demonstrated this. Let’s look at Jesus at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:2-9). Jesus walked by, found a man waiting for the water to stir so he could be the first one in and be healed. Jesus saw the man’s limited perspective and said, “Take up your bed and walk.” Let go of all that belief in how it has to be. Let go of all the “ifs” and “thens” that need to be before you can, just get up and do it. Jesus’ way of Being/Seeing in the moment impacted that man, and impacted that moment. If Jesus hadn’t walked by, we wouldn’t even have known about that moment. So, how we are in the moment impacts how that moment unfolds. Are we tethered to an idea that things have to be a certain way before we can be healed? Before we can be happy? Before we can be content, peaceful?

An Awakened State of Being

A larger perspective, a more powerful perspective, not based on conditions brings into the moment something more. This is a higher level of Being that accesses a larger field of possibilities and actualizes untapped, unknown, potential. This is an awakened state of Being.

Jesus lived from the perspective of the Whole, this Awareness influenced the moment as it was unfolding. This is my practice of surrendering the small limited idea of what the finite mind believes has to be, or should be, or prefers it to be. And instead, breathe into what is with acceptance, while being connected to the whole of unlimited possibilities. Sinking down into the surrendering of any energy that wants to resist or cling to what is unfolding and sinking into a place of complete neutrality, acceptance, and willingness. Through this broader, more expansive awareness comes into creation possibilities previously lost to my ego’s preferences. In this way of being, we can “take up our bed and walk.”
