Healing Part 1

The Healing Process

Many people are seeking healing but how does the healing process actually take place? Nearly 10 years ago, a medical diagnosis awakened a very real personal need for healing. Chemo and radiation did not seem like a healing path. So a more wholistic approach of nutrition combined with a primary focus on a deeper, energetic spiritual level of healing, were the methods used. Having studied several spiritual healing processes during seminary and beyond, combined with choosing quality of life over quantity, informed this choice and was founded on ultimate trust in the soul’s ongoing life. Today, this one is grateful that extensive tests indicate being clear of the diagnosis.

Each individual’s healing journey is unique as are the multitude of factors influencing the path. What is shared here is hopefully supportive to the reader’s own healing journey. This post is focused on the spiritual pathway of healing, synthesizing what has been learned in hopes of assisting another in the healing process on an inner, energetic, spiritual level.

Let’s begin with listing the spiritual healing pathways studied and then condense and distill these practices into something that could possibly be of benefit. Here is a list of the several healing processes studied and a very brief overview of the methods used.

  • Myrtle Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, healing process - Myrtle spent time in prayer and meditation loving her body and consciously holding loving thoughts and words for her body.

  • Rev. Robert Brummet’s counseling process - in a moment of upset one brings awareness to what is being felt, where it is felt in the body, recognize and release the story around it and remembering what is true.

  • Dr David Hawkins MD, PhD Healing and Recovery - Healing consists of: 1) Let go resisting the sensory experience of it, 2) No longer put names or labels on it; use no words at all. 3) Welcome experiencing what you are experiencing in a very radical way and at the same time cancel the thought form and belief system. 4) Choose the energy field of love which heals.

  • The Buddhist practice of The Middle Way - resist nothing, practice mindfulness toward everything.

  • Jesus Christ - able to do the miraculous by staying in the open space between humanity and Divinity and allowing a greater awareness to flow freely.

  • Cynthia Bourgeault The Wisdom Jesus, Welcoming Practice based on Centering Prayer - visceral embodied witnessing practice. “Whether the situation is physical or emotional, the same three steps apply: 1. Focus or sink-in, 2. Welcome 3. Let go.”

The source of healing is Consciousness Awareness

Through conscious awareness we can radiate love onto everything we see and experience. Consciousness is the power of the Source of our very life and existence. When we are aware of our consciousness, and allow it to be fully present, it flows into what it is focused upon and brings with it an open compassionate embrace to what is happening. When this is done consistently, at every level, and toward every situation, this conscious awareness (also known as love) becomes unconditional, and healing follows like night to day.

Opening the Flow of Energy

Everything is energy. When energy is constricted over a long period of time (for instance negative thoughts, tension, worry, concern) it disrupts the energy flow through our being and eventually can surface as unease and bring disease to the body.

The pathway of healing is allowing -
allowing the energy of the body and
the awareness of Consciousness -
to open up and flow.

We are actually moving our awareness, to that which is a deeper awareness than the body, a deeper awareness than the sensations of the body, a deeper awareness than the mind that registers the sensations of the body. Conscious awareness is that which is aware within us which recognizes the thoughts of the mind that register the sensations of the body. It is from our awareness that healing can begin. Conscious awareness embraces what is happening, this allows one to open to experience what is actually happening in the body.

We literally untangle the knots of energy within our mind and body from the spacious Conscious awareness emanating from our soul.

A Living Practice of Healing

Let’s use a real life example, right where you are right now begin to become keenly aware of your body. Is it sitting, standing? Is it comfortable? Is there a way you could move to allow more comfort to be established within your body? Remaining with your body how deeply are you breathing? Bringing awareness to the breath, does that breath want to change to support greater well-being? Bringing attention to what you are feeling? Is there a slight sense of dread, concern, worry or something else? If so, go into what you feel and where you feel it within you. Sense the feeling within the body and notice the feeling,.. welcome the feeling. Continuously, radically, bring loving awareness to what it feels like. Enfold the area where it is felt with Conscious awareness, your awareness. Allow space for the sensation without trying to stop or change it in any way, rather welcome and embrace the experience. Rest here in a calm and compassionate embrace of what is being experienced. Breathe. Be. Allow what is being experienced attention, give it your full awareness without resistance and with full acceptance. After a time, this compassionate embrace eventually leads to a shift, an opening, a release where greater ease begins to be established. When this shift happens then gently let go and go on and continue to allow the greater spacious ease.

We all have this ability to de-tangle and open the energy of conscious awareness to flow through us, completely and without restriction. In this process, healing is what flows through.
